What is Pearl Powder?
Pearl powder is made from freshwater pearls or saltwater pearls below jewellery grade. These are sterilised in boiling water and then milled into a fine powder using stainless steel grinding discs or by milling with small porcelain balls in moist conditions.
Why is Pearl Powder good for your skin?
Pearl powder is rich in peptides, amino acids, anti-oxidants, minerals and other substances such as PFC (P BU porphyrin compounds), etc. These are the substances that are beneficial for skin, enhance the production of collagen, and give skin a clearer and more radiant look. Research has shown that pearl powder inhibits the production of melanin, which is why it is also used to whiten skin and reduce pigmentation.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine, pearl is known to have the properties of calming the mind and nervous system, brighten the eyes through removing "cloudiness", detoxify the body and promote healing of the skin.
Pearl powder is cold in nature and reduces heat in the body. Its action against insomnia is through reducing excess "Liver heat" and calming the mind and nervous system. Hence, if your insomnia is caused by "Liver heat", it would be useful.
How should I take Pearl Powder?
Take the pearl powder half an hour before sleep if you want it to address sleep issues/insomnia, otherwise, it is alright to take it in the morning. Most people can take it on empty stomach (absorption is better), but if you have a tendency to get loose stool or diarrhoea, do take it after food.
